We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many manufacturers on quite a lot of video projects, from live-action to motion graphics. However generally the inspiration for a video comes not from a companion however from a private ardour. That’s how our new documentary, Always a Fan, Ann, was born.

The quick doc follows the story of Ann Lambert, a 95-year-old Chicago-born Cubs fan who has waited her total life to see her staff win the World Collection. In 2016, she lastly noticed that dream come true, and we have been there to seize the emotional journey.

For our first foray into documentary filmmaking, we couldn’t have chosen a greater topic. Whether or not or not you want sports activities, Ann’s ardour and enthusiasm makes you need to root for her to get her lifelong want. Oh, and did we point out that Ann can be the grandmother of C5 Producer Eric Shumny?

THE INSPIRATION

When the Cubs have been on the World Collection observe in 2016, we acquired caught up within the pleasure—largely due to Eric, Column 5’s die-hard Cubs fan. (For you non-sports followers, the Cubs hadn’t gained a World Collection in 108 years.)

We thought Eric was excited, however when he informed us about his Grandma Ann, who was born in Chicago in 1921 and had by no means seen her hometown staff win, we have been wanting to see how she’d react if the Cubs truly did win. We’re at all times searching for contemporary methods to flex our storytelling expertise, so we assembled a staff, together with our buddies at Change for Balance, and got down to inform Ann’s story.

THE FILMING

We knew the story was thrilling, however on a time crunch, we would have liked to verify every thing from pre-production, to taking pictures, to post-production went as easily as potential to create the narrative.

Filmed over six weeks within the fall of 2016, we have been decided to seize Ann’s ardour and enthusiasm within the consolation of her own residence. For her first time on display screen, Ann was a pure.

“I felt very comfy throughout the whole manufacturing! I felt like I may very well be myself and speak freely,” Ann says.

Unsurprisingly, Ann’s pleasure quickly unfold to the crew.

“Everybody on this undertaking—aside from one Dodgers fan—was moved to root for the Cubs for the rest of the season after that first day of filming,” Eric says.

Shot on Pink Epic digital cinema cameras, which allow us to preserve extremely high-definition and cinematic high quality, it was clear we’d discovered an excellent story—and character—in Ann.

“In the end, what made us fall in love with Ann was her humorousness, which you’ll detect from the tales she tells, the songs she sings, and the jokes she cracks,” the Change for Stability staff says. “We really feel extraordinarily honored to have been let into Ann’s world and to have captured her unbelievable story.”

THE FINAL RESULT

We hope you’ll take pleasure in this quick documentary—and fall in love with Ann as a lot as we did. This was one in all our most unusual tasks, and we’re so grateful to everybody who helped create it, particularly Eric and Ann, who allow us to share their household legacy with the world.

“It was wonderful to see my grandmother mild up whereas sharing tales from her previous. Reliving recollections together with her was an actual particular expertise with a lot of laughter and perhaps just a few watery eyes,” Eric says. “Watching these video games collectively and seeing her hope and disbelief flip into pure happiness with a World Collection win is one thing I’ll always remember.”
